The goal of your pillow is to keep your head in a neutral position while you sleep. To determine the right pillow for you, consider what position you sleep in.


  • If you sleep on your side you will need a thicker pillow to fill in the space between your ear and the mattress and keep your head aligned with your body.
  • If you sleep on your back you should choose a thinner pillow so that it does not push your head too far forward. You can choose one with a small support at the bottom third of the pillow to cradle your neck.
  • Stomach sleeping is not recommended as it will force you to turn your head to one direction which will put prolonged strain on your neck as you sleep. However, if you were to sleep on your stomach a very thin pillow or no pillow at all is the best choice.
